After pickup or delivery

Fresh cakes are delicate by nature, especially in warmer weather or when finished with buttercream, fondant details, toppers or taller designs. This quick guide explains how to check your cake at handover, transport it safely and chill it before serving.

Collection / pickup

For cakes collected by you, a friend, family member or your own driver.

  • You are welcome to quickly open the box and visually check the cake with us at handover before you leave.
  • After collection, safe transport, temperature control and storage are your responsibility.
  • Place the cake on a flat, level surface in the car — ideally the passenger footwell or flat boot floor, never on a seat.
  • Keep the vehicle cool and air-conditioned. Avoid direct sun, hot cabins and unnecessary waiting in the car.
  • Drive gently: avoid sharp braking, fast corners, hard acceleration, bumps and potholes where possible.
  • As a guide, try to keep travel to around 30 minutes in warmer weather and around up to 1 hour in cooler weather unless you are using proper cooling.
  • Once home, place the cake in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving at around 1–3°C.
Multi-tier cakes, taller cakes and designs with delicate toppers or side decorations need especially careful transport. The more detailed the finish, the more sensitive the cake is to heat and movement.

Delivery by us

  • When your cake arrives, you may inspect it at handover while we are still present.
  • If there is a visible issue on arrival, please mention it straight away so we can review it immediately.
  • After delivery has been completed, please keep the cake cool, level and away from direct sunlight or strong heat sources.
  • Even after delivery, we recommend chilling the cake for at least 2 hours before serving at around 1–3°C.
  • If the cake has travelled well but is then left in a warm room, sunny conservatory or hot car, buttercream and decorations can soften very quickly.
Our cakes are made fresh to order and are not designed to sit for long periods in a warm vehicle. Proper handling after handover helps keep the finish neat and the structure stable until serving time.
